Police say a Kearns woman, upset with her adult son's lagging financial contribution to the home they shared, stabbed him during an argument this weekend.

Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said officers responding to a 911 call at 5:30 p.m. Saturday found the 39-year-old son at 4207 W. Bampton Lane in Kearns, suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

He was initially listed in serious condition at the hospital, but had been upgraded to fair on Monday.

The victim's 67-year-old mother allegedly told detectives that before the stabbing, she and her son had been arguing over his "unwillingness to uphold financial obligations to her and the house."

She was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County jail, where she remained without bail Monday on suspicion third-degree felony aggravated assault.
