West Valley City police are looking for a man they believe stole a police vehicle early Sunday morning, which they recovered within half an hour.

Two police officers were responding to a report of domestic violence near 4500 South and 4500 West about 6 a.m., according to Lt. Blair Barfuss, when a man outside a residence — identified as 28-year-old Josh Bell — waved them down and said someone inside the house was going to kill a family member.

As the officers headed into the home, Bell climbed into the police car and drove off.

Police located the vehicle by 6:25 a.m., Barfuss said. The vehicle had sustained no damaged and nothing was reported missing from the car. He added that no weapons were in the vehicle when it was taken.

Anyone with information on Bell's whereabouts is asked to contact dispatch at 801-840-4000.
