An early Wednesday morning fire left residents of three units of a West Jordan apartment complex without homes.

Public safety dispatchers said a 911 call came in at 5:12 a.m. from the Willow Cove Apartments, at 9300 S. Redwood Road. Firefighters arrived to find an apartment balcony ablaze.

West Jordan Fire Battalion Chief Duane Paxton said flames were shooting 20-30 feet into the air from the third-floor apartment when crews arrived.

By 6:45 a.m., the fire had been doused, but the flames had heavily damaged the initial apartment and two others.

The Utah Red Cross was assisting those displaced with food, clothing and shelter.

Damages were expected to exceed $40,000, Paxton said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
