I was concerned that perhaps I was too harsh in my review of "Pitch" (8 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13). I did, after all, call it the worst new show this fall.

But reviewing a TV series is not like reviewing a movie or a concert. It's not a finished product. A lot of times, TV critics are reviewing series based on just one episode.

That was the case with "Pitch." And I particularly hated the extraordinarily stupid twist at the end of the first episode — that (SPOILER ALERT) Ginny's father died years earlier and she was just imagining him when she was called up as the first woman to play Major League baseball. So I thought perhaps that made me hate the show more than I should.

But I've watched two more episodes of "Pitch," including the one that airs tonight. And I still detest this overwrought, ridiculous and downright dopey series.

There's a scene in this week's episode in which the team captain (played by a woefully miscast Mark-Paul Gosselaar) delivers an impassioned locker room speech and it comes off as a bad "Saturday Night Live" sketch. It's ludicrous and unintentionally funny.

I get that we're supposed to suspend disbelief and accept that a woman is pitching for the San Diego Padres. The problem with this show is not its premise.

The problem is in the execution. Which is bad. And, at least through Episodes 2 and 3, isn't getting any better.

I'm reminded of my daughter's reaction when we watched the pilot together together:

"I'm insulted as a woman," she said. "I'm insulted as a baseball fan. I'm insulted as a TV viewer."

Well, she did grow up the daughter of a TV critic.
