A Layton woman was found dead early Sunday after she apparently fell off a cliff, according to a press release by the Davis County Sheriff's Department.

Saturday night, Davis County Search and Rescue responded to a report of a lost hiker, 18-year-old Alexys Hipwell, of Layton, in the Adams Canyon region, just above Layton.

The crew eventually located Hipwell's body at the bottom of a 70-foot cliff at 12:20 a.m. Sunday.

Preliminary evidence indicated that Hipwell likely slipped and fell due to weather conditions.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the sheriff's department.
