A Salt Lake City woman who admitted to hitting and killing a man in a parking lot while driving drunk last year has been sentenced to prison for up to five years.

Lindsy Ann Floyd, 31, pleaded guilty as charged in July to third-degree felony automobile homicide in connection with the 2015 death of 73-year-old George Kassavetis, of Salt Lake City.

On Friday, Floyd was sentenced to a zero-to-five-year prison term by 3rd District Judge Keith Kelly, who also ordered her to pay $5,726.47 in victim restitution.

On Oct. 28, 2015, Floyd was driving an SUV at "a low speed" through the Wal-Mart parking lot at 350 W. Hope Avenue (1405 South), when her vehicle struck the shopping cart Kassavetis was pushing — causing him to fall and strike his head, according to Floyd's plea documents.

Kassavetis was taken to a hospital, where he died six days later.

A detective at the crash scene smelled alcohol on Floyd, who "demonstrated several signs of impairment," according to charging documents.

Police collected a blood sample from her, which showed her blood-alcohol content was 0.18, which is more than twice the legal limit for driving, the charges add.
