Directions • From Evanston, Wyoming, take the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (Utah Highway 150) south for 39 miles. If coming from Kamas, take Center Street east until the road becomes Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. Travel about 40 miles before reaching the trailhead. The trailhead is near a large pull-off, across the road from Sulpher Campground. Hikers should see the Forest Service sign marking the beginning of Bourbon Lake trail.
Hike • Much of this trail is a series of switchbacks that bring hikers higher above Highway 150 and away from the noise of the cars and campground visitors below. About half a mile in, the trail splits: Follow straight to a wooden bench where you can rest near Whiskey Creek. A small wooden sign with an arrow will point you in the right direction to continue up the trail. Continue up the tree-lined dirt path, which will meander away from the river and gain elevation until you reach your destination. Enjoy the beauty of the small lake, before heading back the way you came. The lake is small enough that hikers can easily loop the body of water before making your return.
