Jared Russell has been named the director of player personnel for the Utah State football program, Aggie coach Matt Wells announced Tuesday.

In his new job, Russell will oversee all aspects of the recruiting process, including prospect identification, evaluations, marketing and social media and campus visitations.

"I'm thrilled to be given the opportunity to work with Utah State football," Russell said in a statement released by the school. "… The improvements in Aggie football — both on and off the field — have been very dramatic in the recent past and my goal is to do everything I can to continue that upward climb."

Said Wells: "We are excited to add Jared to our support staff. He will play a key role in our recruiting efforts moving forward and I know he will represent our program and university the right way."

Prior to joining Utah State's staff, Russell spent two years as the on-campus recruiting/high school relations coordinator at Boise State.

Before Boise State, Russell spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League. He served as a scouting and coaching intern. With the Rattlers, he provided an advanced scouting report on every opponent, broke down film, provided statistical analysis on opponent's quarterbacks and assisted in workout programs.

Russell graduated from Arizona State in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology. Prior to transferring to ASU, Russell spent one season playing baseball for Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, Wash.
