A Utah State Prison inmate died Friday from injuries sustained in what appears to have been a suicide attempt earlier in the week.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Adams said Rainey P. Manyhides, 20, was found by prison staff hanging and unresponsive in his cell in the Uinta Facility about 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Manyhides, who was alone in his cell, was given CPR and rushed by Unified Fire Authority paramedics to the hospital.

Doctors pronounced the inmate dead early Friday morning.

DOC and Unified Police detectives conducting investigations into the death, though an initial review "shows officers responded properly when they became aware of the incident," Adams said.

Manyhides was first imprisoned March 2014 on attempted robbery and attempted assault by a prisoner convictions. He was paroled on Feb. 16 of this year, but returned to prison on May 3 after violating his parole by absconding from a community correctional center.
