Sometimes the best travel experiences are those closest to home.

That's true for two events this weekend along the Wasatch Front.

In my Taylorsville neighborhood, Taylorsville Dayzz is scheduled Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Valley Regional Park at 5100 S. 2700 West.

Though there are some big crowd pleasers at the free event including a carnival with rides, the Utah Symphony Thursday, a Beach Boys tribute band Friday, an Abba tribute band Saturday, a Saturday parade, fun runs, movie in the park Thursday and fireworks Friday and Saturday, I enjoyed the vendors area when I attended.

The vendors were community oriented with unique foods, crafts and service projects. It was a good place to meet politicians and chat one on one with them.

An even bigger event is the 2016 Hill Air Force Base Warriors Over the Wasatch Utah Air Show Friday and Saturday at the Ogden military facility.

The event includes the Air Force Thunderbirds, Red Bull pilot Kirby Chambliss and a salute to air power. Visitors can see a huge collection of aircraft including cargo lifters and helicopters.
