The freshman who set the batting pace for Utah's lineup — and showed his speed running the bags — this past weekend has been honored by the Pac-12 for an outstanding series.

Outfielder DaShawn Keirsey with 7 for 15 for the weekend with seven RBI to wrap up the Pac-12 player of the week, helping usher the Utes to the outright Pac-12 championship in a 2-1 series win against Washington.

Keirsey got all seven of his hits in the two Utah wins, including http://bit.ly/1P7uahl";>a thrilling inside-the-park home run in Game 2 to help edge the Huskies 12-8. He was the most prolific-hitting Ute in the Sunday rubber match, http://bit.ly/1TPEny7";>batting 4 for 5 with three RBI in the 21-7 win.

It's Keirsey's first-ever Pac-12 weekly honor, and the second for the Utes this season (Hunter Simmons).

The San Diego native is likely a candidate for Pac-12 all-freshman honors for the season after batting .312 this season and scoring a league-high 28 runs in conference play.

Keirsey is expected to lead off for the Utes (25-27) this weekend in the NCAA Tournament as http://bit.ly/1snK9hg";>they face regional host and national No. 10 seed Ole Miss (43-17).
