The geek convention scene in Utah is getting a little more cozy.

Dan Farr Productions, which produces Salt Lake Comic Con, announced Friday that it has bought a 50 percent interest in Salt Lake Gaming Con, the three-day event for game enthusiasts that runs next week in Sandy.

"We're committed to doing everything we can to provide our fans in the Rocky Mountain area with fun, unique and once-in-a-lifetime events, and Salt Lake Gaming Con meets all of these requirements," Farr said in a statement. "It will be exciting to watch gaming fans of all ages interact with and compete against fellow gamers in an environment that encourages them to follow their gaming passions."

The event — which brings together players of e-sports, video games, tabletop games, board games, card games, RPG and cosplayers — runs Thursday through Saturday, June 2-4, at the South Towne Expo Center.

Last year's Gaming Con drew 15,000 attendees, organizers said. The event offers some 50 tournaments in various games, along with demonstrations of new games and vendor booths. There also are guest appearances by actor Steven Ogg ("Grand Theft Auto"), NFL and former Utes defensive tackle Sealver Siliga, hypnotist Vincent Lords, video game voice actor Steve "Warky" Nunez and pro cosplayer Joanie Brosas.

A three-day pass is $30 for adults, $20 for children 9 to 12, and free (with an adult pass) for kids 8 and under. Passes are available at the event's website.
