A 27-year-old Provo man charged with the death of a bicyclist during an October traffic accident in Orem has partially resolved the case by entering pleas in abeyance.

Brandon Quist was charged in 4th District Court with one count of class A misdemeanor negligent homicide for the death of 51-year-old Stacy Bown, of Orem.

Last week, Quist entered guilty pleas to the negligent homicide count, as well as to an infraction for running a red light.

Another hearing was set for June 3 before Judge James Brady to set plea in abeyance conditions, and to give the victim's family an opportunity to speak in court, said Orem City Attorney D. Jacob Summers.

The case will be dismissed in 12 months, if Quist abides by the conditions to be imposed, and incurs no new criminal violations, according to a court docket entry

The fatal accident occurred at about 3 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2015, as Bown and her husband, Kevin Bown, 55, were on bicycles waiting for a red light on 800 East at University Parkway, a few blocks from their home, according to police.

When the light turned green, they began pedaling south on 800 East and through the intersection.

Quist, driving east in a Honda Civic, drove through a red light and struck the Bowns.

Stacey Bown, who took the brunt of the impact, died about six hours later. Her husband suffered critical but non-life threatening injuries, police have said.
