Former professional soccer player Dominic Militello has accepted the head coaching position for the Cottonwood girls' soccer program.

Militello, who started his career at Palos Verdes High in Southern California, played collegiately at UNLV before signing with the Salt Lake Sting in the American Professional Soccer League. He played two seasons with the Sting, including scoring a hat trick in the league's inaugural game in 1990.

"It is an exciting project to revitalize the [Cottonwood] soccer program," Militello wrote. "I think I need them as much as they need me."

Militello said returning to Cottonwood "brings me full circle" because the Sting used Cottonwood for their home field. The Colts finished 3-12-1 last season, and failed to qualify for the postseason.
