A 9-year-old girl ejected during a collision Wednesday night in west Salt Lake City was upgraded Thursday from critical to serious condition.

Salt Lake City police Detective Veronica Montoya said the girl was not wearing a seat belt when the Ford Expedition she was riding in was struck by a pickup truck that ran a stop sign at 800 South and 500 West at 8:34 p.m. Wednesday.

The 42-year-old driver of the eastbound Expedition was cited for a seat belt violation. Three other children in the vehicle, as well as the driver, escaped serious injury.

The 73-year-old man driving the pickup was cited for failure to stop.

The 9-year-old girl remained at Primary Children's Hospital on Thursday.
