Michael Cavallari, the brother of reality television star Kristin Cavallari and brother-in-law of NFL quarterback Jay Cutler, died in the Southern Utah desert of hypothermia.

On Tuesday, state medical examiner's office determined Cavallari's death was accidental. The announcement came about two months after the California man disappeared in Grand County.

On Nov. 27, a rancher discovered Cavallari's Honda Civic, still running and stuck against a small embankment off a dirt road about 5 miles from Exit 175, which is about 7 miles west of the freeway exit to Moab.

Searchers fanned out in the desolate area looking for him. On Dec. 10, they found his body in a steep, rocky area south of Interstate 70, according to the Grand County Sheriff's Office.

"My heart is in a million pieces," Kristin Cavallari posted on Instagram after the news broke that searchers had found her brother's body. "Mikey, I could always count on you to make me laugh. You had such a good heart and will be forever missed. I'm at a loss for words but I know u are in a better place and finally at peace. I love u so much RIP."

Investigators had been examining whether one factor in his disappearance was his recent arrest in Orange County, California on allegations that he acted threateningly toward a woman and had a gun. Following his Nov. 23 arrest, he bailed out of jail two days before his car was found in Utah.

According to a police report, Michael Cavallari was taken into custody without incident after a woman called the sheriff's department to say he was outside her apartment with a shotgun.

The unnamed woman told deputies the two argued days earlier, and she was afraid because he kept returning to her apartment. Police reported smelling alcohol on Michael Cavallari's breath when he was arrested. He acknowledged having a loaded shotgun in his trunk, the report said.

Michael Cavallari denied doing anything to the woman.
