Murray's four-star defensive end Maxs Tupai will not be faxing in his commitment on National Signing Day on Wednesday, according to his sister Deanna.

"He doesn't want to make the wrong decision," Deanna said. "I think for Maxs, he wants to feel comfortable. It has nothing to do with being the top-ranked school. A lot of people hype it up, but that's not the reason why."

Deanna added: "He wants to go to a school that coaches are on-hand with him with academics. Maxs is more of a person who wants people to be straight honest with him."

Considered one of the top prospects nationally, Tupai recorded 116 tackles, including 32 tackles for a loss, with 23.5 sacks, five forced fumbled and five passes defensed during his senior year for the Spartans. He has taken official visits to USC, Oklahoma and Oregon State, according to his sister, but eliminated the Trojans from his consideration.

"I don't even know. I'm just as lost as you as [to] when he's going to sign, but USC is out of the picture," Deanna said. "I don't know if he's going to take his official visit for UCLA this weekend, he doesn't know if he's going to take it or not."

Speculation regarding his academic eligibility surfaced after Tupai's decision not to sign became public, but according to Deanna — he's currently on track to graduate.

"As of right now," Deanna said when asked if Maxs was eligible. "If he stays on track for this last term, which he's going to do perfectly fine. He has to take the ACT again, but he's on track."

The timetable for his commitment is still undetermined, and Maxs has not released any schools of interest, as he's kept his recruitment private from the onset. Asked if he might wait until graduating high school until announcing, Deanna was uncertain but said it could be a possibility.

"I want to say yes, just because of how he is," Deanna said. "He's really picky."
