Five years ago, on Nov. 30, 2010, Sherry Black, 64, was beaten and stabbed at her South Salt Lake bookstore, B&W Billiards and Books at 3466 S. 700 East.

South Salt Lake police said Monday they have not identified a suspect. But they stressed that the homicide investigation is still ongoing and has never been considered a "cold case."

"Investigators have never let the case run cold; having gone back to the beginning and started over to make sure nothing has been overlooked," police said in a press release.

Police noted that there is a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the 64-year-old woman's death.

Dispatched to the scene at 1:43 p.m. on that November day, officers found Black lying on the floor of her bookstore with obvious stab wounds, police said.

Police were able to recover blood evidence from the crime scene, including blood that is believed to have come from a male suspect. Police theorize that the suspect cut his hand while stabbing Black.

The suspect's blood DNA profile has been entered on the FBI's national data base, the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), but there has not yet been a match, police said.

"If anyone has any information — no matter how obscure; maybe something you saw or heard; maybe something about the case you have wanted to talk with law enforcement about — please give us a call," police urged.

Investigators also want to hear from anyone who was living in the neighborhood of Black's book shop at the time of the homicide who was not contacted by the police.

All calls are confidential and callers can remain anonymous, police said.
