Comparing different years is difficult.

But it could be argued that the Utah high school fall sports season that is winding down with football playoffs and the final two volleyball state tournaments has produced one of the state's most impressive overall strongest showings on the national stage.

Teams and in some cases individuals are being recognized by national rankings services or outright competition in every one of Utah's fall sports.

Start with Lone Peak's boys golf team. Led by Carson Lundell, the Class 5A champions won national tournaments in Arizona and Florida to arguably rank as the top high school team in the country.

Then there is Davis' two-time defending 5A girls' soccer team. The unbeaten Darts moved up to third in USA Today's most recent national rankings. They have 10 girls with college scholarship offers.

Morgan, which completed a perfect season by winning the Class 3A volleyball tournament last week and owns wins over some of the top 5A teams in Utah, is ranked 10th in the latest MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national poll.

Cross country has produced some highly ranked teams as well as individuals from Utah.

Dyestat, a national cross country site, has Davis ranked fifth, Lehi 13th, American Fork 14th and Ogden 28th in its latest boys rankings. The site has American Fork's girls ranked seventh and Davis at eighth.

Individually, Dyestat ranks American Fork's Casey Clinger as the 5th best boys runner nationally followed by Ogden's Alek Parson at 13, Weber's Talon Hull at 15, East's Garek Bielaczyk at 17 and Timpanogos' Will Handley at 22. Davis girls' runner Courtney Wayment is ranked 15th nationally.

Though Bingham's football team isn't as highly regarded as it was a year ago despite its only loss coming to Las Vegas' top-ranked Bishop Gorman, there are some Utah teams ranked nationally.

The Miners come in at No. 22 in the latest USA Today Experts poll. MaxPreps has Lone Peak as Utah's best team at 32 nationally followed by Bingham at 97 and Sky View at 98.
