Just when you thought you'd never hear that name again...

My night with Sarah Palin — George Pyle | The Salt Lake Tribune

"So, Gov. Palin, my old nemesis. We meet again. Boo-haw-haw-haw-haw-haw-haw!

"OK. So I've never actually met the woman. But our paths did sort of cross in a significant way a few years ago.

"Well, significant for me. I doubt that the former chief executive of Alaska, and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, ever noticed.

"I also have no plans to have anything to do with her Oct. 2 speech at a fundraiser for the Pregnancy Resource Center of Salt Lake City. But the announcement of that appearance resulted in a Proustian rush to which you will now be subjected. ..."

Reality Not Celebrity: Keynote Given by George Pyle — The Kansas Free Press [Includes audio file. A really long audio file.]

" ... I don't know exactly what Governor Palin is saying downtown right about now. But, to paraphrase that icon of the patriotic right, General George Patton, and what he supposedly was heard to say as he was setting an ambush for the approaching Afrika corps of Field Marshal Irwin Rommel, I might explain how I might have the advantage in any comparison between us:

"Palin! You magnificent so-and-so! I read your Facebook!!! ..."

Now, lest anyone think I have nothing positive to say about the former half-term governor, props here to the really cool names she has given her children (Track, Trig, Bristol, Piper, Willow). The fathers of Bristol's children are Levi and Dakota. It is a habit that is apparently common in her extended family:

Sarah Palin, Once Code-Named Denali, Likes McKinley Better — Kate Davidson | The Wall Street Journal

"Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has one niece named McKinley, and another named Denali – that about sums up Alaskans' split feelings on the name of the country's largest mountaintop, she said on CNN's 'State of the Union' on Sunday.

"The White House announced last week that Mount McKinley would now be officially known as Denali – the name given to the mountain centuries ago by Alaskan native tribes.

"Denali was also the code name the Secret Service used to refer to the Alaska governor when she was the 2008 vice presidential nominee.

"Nevertheless, Ms. Palin says she's Team McKinley...."

OK. Back to the criticism:

" ... [Palin said,] 'I'd get rid of it. And I'd let the states start having more control over the lands that are within their boundaries and the people who are affected by the developments within their states. If I were in charge of that, it would be a short-term job, but it would be really great to have someone who knows energy and is pro-responsible development to be in charge.'

"Palin is talking about the fact that the federal government owns billions of acres of land and coastal waters, containing quite a bit of oil, gas, and coal. Industry groups have long complained that President Obama hasn't opened up nearly as much of this land to drilling as they'd like. And a few (fringe) groups out West have even demanded that this land be transferred to the states.

"Except this really has nothing to do with the Department of Energy, which mainly oversees the nation's nuclear weapons program — a task consuming nearly half its budget — runs the national labs, and conducts energy R&D.

"What Palin wants is the Department of Interior, which oversees the vast majority of federal lands. They're the ones handling leases for coal mining or fracking on public lands, through the Bureau of Land Management, or supervising offshore oil and gas drilling, through the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. If you wanted to devolve federal lands back to the states, you'd focus on Interior, not Energy. ..."

Sarah Palin Says Immigrants to U.S. Must 'Speak American' — Ali Elkin — Bloomberg News

" ... Palin said she studied both French and Spanish in high school, adding, 'I shouldn't have taken them both, because I got them all mixed up by the time I was graduating.' ..."

" ... We at Ring of Fire are thrilled to know that Palin has not been speaking English for the entire time we have been exposed to her. She is speaking a language called "American" that apparently she is one of the few people in the world who understands; along with bigots, racists, hypocrites, and right-wing fanatics. ..."
