For its fifth year, the Tumbleweeds Film Festival for Children and Youth are bringing together a wild variety of subjects — including a soccer-savvy hamster, a Ugandan baseball team, and the return of a famous band of treasure hunters.

The Utah Film Center today announced the 12 films that will be screened at the Tumbleweeds festival, which runs Sept. 25-27 at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City.

The festival also includes media arts workshops, and the Tumbleweeds Kids Clubhouse — where kids can enjoy physical activities that balance visual content and active play.

Tumbleweeds opens with the Australian adventure "Oddball," the story of an eccentric chicken farmer (Shane Jacobson) whose mischievous dog might be the key to saving a wild penguin sanctuary from fox attacks. The movie, directed by Stuart McDonald, is recommended for ages 7 and up. It screens Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Jeanné Wagner Theatre. (Watch the trailer, above.)
