A head-on crash between a pickup truck and a Nebo School District bus in Payson on Tuesday afternoon left two adults dead and three others seriously injured.

The driver of the pickup, Christopher Jay Cook, 22 of Payson, and passenger MaKia Love Boyd, 18, were killed in the crash.

There were no students on the bus when the two vehicles collided at about 2:15 p.m. at 860 E. Arrowhead Trail Road.

The people who were injured — the bus driver and two passengers in the pickup — were taken by ambulance to Mountain View Hospital, Payson Police Department Lt. Bill Wright said.

The accident is under investigation but it appears the bus, which was traveling northeast, was in its lane, Wright said. The pickup was going southwest on Arrowhead Trail, he said.

A second school bus that was not involved in the crash was traveling in the same direction as the first bus and also had no students on board, Wright said. He did not know immediately how far apart the two buses were.

Boyd's 19th birthday would have been Wednesday, Wright said.
