A volunteer Tooele High School track coach charged with sexually abusing a 15-year-old student has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge.

Terrence Boone Johnson, 22, was charged in 3rd District Court in June with one count each of second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse and third-degree felony sexual abuse of a minor.

On Wednesday, Johnson pleaded guilty to a reduced class A misdemeanor count of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old. The third-degree felony count was dismissed.

He faces up to one year in jail when he is sentenced Oct. 20 by Judge Robert Adkins.

Sometime in May, Johnson and the student were in the basement of his Tooele home when he sexually abused her, according to the charges.

After Johnson was arrested and after waiving his Miranda rights, he told police that he and the victim "started 'making out' after she asked him to pick her up from the school one day," according to the charges.

Johnson has no prior criminal history in Utah, according to a search of court records.
