A package left Wednesday afternoon at Oquirrh Hills Elementary School in Kearns turned out not to contain anything dangerous, according to school officials.

But the two people wearing hoodies who left the cardboard box by the front doors of the school at about 2 p.m. appeared "very suspicious," said Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsley.

He said the two had carried the box up to the school in a "delicate manner."

Horsley said he was hopeful that the two — males in their late teens to early 20s — would be located quickly with the help of school surveillance footage .

The school, located at 5241 S. 4280 West, was locked down and students were evacuated to four relocatables at the back of the campus, Horsley said, while bomb squad members dealt with the package.

The situation was cleared by about 3 p.m.

Horsley said he was not at liberty to say what was in the box, except that it was harmless.
