Las Vegas • Gordon Hayward thinks everything will be okay.

It just might not be easy.

"It's unfortunate what happened to Danté, but we're going to have to move forward," the sixth-year swingman said Tuesday, providing the lone asterisk in an otherwise sunny outlook for the Utah Jazz.

As you have heard by now, 20-year-old Danté Exum, the fifth overall pick a year ago, tore the ACL in his left knee last week while playing for the Australian national team. The injury will likely cost Exum his 2015-16 season and leaves the Jazz searching for answers at point guard.

"It's tough losing a guy like that," Hayward continued. "He was our starting point guard the last X-amount of games. He's also just a good kid, a good guy. It's tough to see somebody go down like that, but he'll be all right. He's 20 years old. He'll probably be better than what he was, honestly, if he uses his time wisely.

On Tuesday, Exum promised the same on Twitter.

As for the Jazz, Hayward said, "Everybody's just going to have to step up. We're probably going to have to play some different lineups. But the thing about it is we have a versatile team where we can play really big. We can play really small. We can get into a lot of different things. That's the beauty of who we have and the developmental coaches that we have. They made us all ball handlers, all skill players. It's going to be tough, but we'll be fine."

Exum is the latest NBA player to suffer an injury in international play and it has, to one degree or another, reheated the years-old debate over whether NBA athletes should be playing for their countries during the summer.

But even after Pacers All-Star Paul George broke his leg a year ago in a Team USA scrimmage here, 34 NBA stars were back in Vegas this week, vying for a spot on the next Olympic team.

"We know that they would never put us in a situation that would jeopardize us," Warriors guard and reigning MVP Steph Curry said. "Honestly, Paul last year was such a freak thing that you hate to see happen, especially in the setting of Team USA. But you had 12 guys continue that journey to Spain last year. You have 34 guys here this week. It's because if you have the opportunity to play for Team USA, you don't want to pass that up. There's obviously risk involved playing basketball in general. You're always at risk of injury or this or that. But we're competitive guys and we just block that out and just play basketball and enjoy the experiences it brings."

The Jazz's first-round draft pick Trey Lyles joined some other NBA rookies for a photo shoot this week. SBNation.com got a few of them to do impressions. Lyles offers up a pretty good Allen Iverson imitation, as well as an impression of his college coach John Calipari.

Speaking of Lyles, the Kentucky product was in Las Vegas last week at Tim Grgurich's basketball camp and reportedly turned some heads with his play.
