BYU basketball coaches got some favorable news on Tuesday night, as Elon University freshman Elijah Bryant announced via his Instagram account that he is transferring to BYU.

Bryant, a 6-foot-4 combo guard, will have to sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rules and then will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. He was the Colonial Athletic Association's Rookie of the Year last season after averaging 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

He also made visits to Butler and Miami before choosing BYU, the school he visited last weekend. Bryant is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the faith that owns and operates BYU.

Bryant played in all 33 of Elon's games last season and shot 38.2 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from beyond the 3-point line.

From Gwinnett, Georgia, Bryant played a year at a prep school in New Hampshire (Hampton) before signing with the Phoenix in April of 2014, just before then-BYU guard Matt Carlino announced he was leaving. The Cougars were pursuing him then, but didn't have a scholarship available and by the time Carlino left, Bryant had signed with Elon.

Bryant announced he was leaving Elon on June 29, and got his release in early July. He will be eligible to play for BYU the same season that Eric Mika, T.J. Haws and Payton Dastrup all return from LDS Church missions.
