Rescue workers were dispatched to Millcreek Canyon Tuesday morning to aid a camper who had become too sick to hike out.

A 911 call came in about 4:30 a.m. from the canyon's Dog Lake area, where a group of campers reported a 25-year-old male was passing out. The campers did not think he could hike back out without medical assistance.

Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said canyon officers arrived at the scene about 6:45 a.m. and shortly thereafter a Department of Public Safety helicopter landed to ferry him to a canyon parking lot and a waiting ambulance.

Bell said the man was in fair condition, with flu-like symptoms.
