Charles West, the 18-year-old BYU football signee who still faces charges of raping a woman at knifepoint last February, was shot in the left arm on Sunday evening while playing basketball at a middle school in his hometown of Coppell, Texas.

Coppell was released from Parkland Memorial Hospital a few hours after being admitted Sunday night and later tweeted that he was OK.

"For all who is (sic) concerned I'm fine. May the lord be with everyone," West said via Twitter.

Coppell Police announced Monday that a suspect has been arrested in the case, but as of 2 p.m. MT the motive was still unknown.

In a department news release, police also said that they are aware of a video that shows the shooting incident and was available on Twitter hours after the shooting.

West signed to play for the Cougars on Feb. 4, but days later was arrested at Coppell High School for allegedly assaulting a woman from an escort service whom he had summoned to his home while his parents were away.

He has since been indicted by a grand jury and is awaiting trial. His attorney, Hunt Bonneau, has maintained throughout the ordeal that West is innocent and will be cleared of criminal wrongdoing.

His status this fall at BYU remains unclear.

At the school's football media day last month, head coach Bronco Mendenhall said there is "nothing new to report" regarding the running back's status. During spring camp, Mendenhall said he would withhold comment on West's situation until the young man's legal troubles have run their course.

Also at media day, receivers coach Guy Holliday, who was largely responsible for recruiting West to BYU, said he continues to stand behind the three-star recruit.
