Tonight's installment of "P.O.V." (11 p.m., PBS/Ch. 7) — a collection of independent fims — is the fascinating, troubling "Out In the Night."

It's about four African-American lesbian friends who are verbally and physically attacked by a man in New York City in New York City. In the ensuing melee, the man was stabbed; and the women were eventually convicted of gang assault.

NYC's tabloid press sensationalized the case, labeling them a "Gang of Killer Lesbians."

The film includes interviews with the women, their families and one of the arresting officers, along with surveillance-camera footage of the confrontation.
