Police are looking for leads from the public after a west Salt Lake City apartment complex shooting put a man in the hospital.

Salt Lake City police dispatchers say officers responded to a 911 call of gunfire at the apartments, located at 400 South and 1600 West, about 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Investigation had just begun, so details were few about the incident. However, Lt. Dave Cracroft said it did appear to be gang-related.

The victim apparently had heard a loud argument outside his apartment in the complex's courtyard, went to investigate and was wounded in the shoulder when one or more of the group opened fire. The victim, a concealed weapons permit holder, also may have fired during the incident.

The victim was transported to a hospital in serious condition.

Police were looking for a gray Chevrolet Malibu with 20-inch chrome wheel rims, but no suspect descriptions were immediately available.
