What started out as a 911 call about a suicidal Iron County man ended with his arrest for shooting a shotgun at another person.

Iron County sheriff's Sgt. Nik Johnson says it began with deputies dispatched about 7 p.m. Sunday to a residence in the Three Peaks Subdivision, about five miles northwest of Cedar City, where the 28-year-old suspect reportedly was threatening to kill himself.

When deputies arrived, they "learned that the suicidal subject had committed an aggravated assault and had attempted to shoot another individual with a shotgun," Johnson stated. "The suspect ... was arrested and taken to the Iron County jail. While at the jail he contacted the victim via telephone."

The suspect was booked on suspicion of felony counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and witness tampering and misdemeanor intoxication.
