Woods Cross •Top-ranked Alta looks strong going into Tuesday's 5A boys' soccer semifinals at Woods Cross High School.

The Hawks meet red-hot Lehi in the 1:45 p.m. game while Brighton tests Layton at 11:30 a.m.

The Class 4A games will also be held at Woods Cross' football stadium with Timpview meeting East at 4:15 p.m. followed by Skyline and Provo at 6:30 p.m.

Alta, whose goalie Alex Johnson has recorded 11 shutouts behind one of the state's defense, has outscored its opponents 10-1 in its last three games and goes into the semifinals looking like the favorite to win its first state boys' soccer crown since 2011.

Lehi, the Hawks' foe, is the surprise of the tournament. The Pioneers, who won the 2013 4A title, were the third place team in Region Four and needed to win two road games to get to this point.

Brighton, the second place Region Three team, has won two close contests in state that should prepare the Bengals for a tough test from Region One champion Layton.

The Lancers won their last soccer state title in 2003, while Brighton last won the crown in 2009.

In Class 4A, defending state champion Skyline started the season slowly but has been on a roll as of late, having won five straight. Provo limped into state, losing two of its last three league games but still winning Region Eight. The Bulldogs escaped a first-round scare, beating Murray in double overtime, and will be going after their first state title since 1988.

Region Six champion East, which won its only boys title in 2006, has outscored its opponents 6-1 in the first two games and may be the hottest team remaining.

Timpview, the third place team from Region Eight, has won two straight on the road and seems to thrive in pressure situations.

Winners of the two games will meet Thursday for the title at Rio Tinto Stadium with the 5A teams beginning at 4:30 and the 4A title game set at 7 p.m. under the lights.
