After several first-round surprises and upsets, the Class 5A and 4A boys soccer tournaments enter Friday's quarterfinals basically wide open.

Judge Memorial pulled Wednesday's biggest upset in Class 4A when the fourth-place Bulldogs from Region Six traveled to Region Five champion Sky View and came home with a 2-1 victory.

That matched Davis' 1-0 upset of Region Four champion Lone Peak Tuesday in Class 5A as the biggest surprise in the first round.

It also showed that both tournaments are wide open.

Friday's 4 p.m. quarterfinals at home sites in Class 5A and 4A are set with semifinals next Tuesday at Woods Cross and the two title games back to back at Rio Tinto Stadium on Thursday.

Perhaps the most interesting Class 5A match will see top-ranked Alta hosting defending state champion Riverton. In Class 4A, defending champion Skyline hosts Logan in a rematch of last year's state title game the Eagles won 3-0.

Other quarterfinal 5A games see Davis traveling to Brighton; Layton hosting Taylorsville, and Lehi at Hunter.

In Class 4A, Judge is at Timpview; East hosts Maple Mountain, and Bountiful travels to Provo, where the top-ranked Bulldogs struggled to a 2-1 double overtime win over Murray Wednesday.
