For the first time since 2012, but third time in the past five years, no BYU football players were taken in the NFL Draft, which concluded Saturday afternoon in Chicago.

However, not long after the draft ended, at least nine BYU players announced that they have signed free agent contracts or at least have received an invitation to attend an NFL mini-camp on a tryout basis.

The BYU player said to have the best chance at getting drafted, outside linebacker Alani Fua, wasn't picked but was quickly picked up by the Arizona Cardinals.

"Proud to start my journey with the Arizona Cardlinals," Fua noted via Twitter. "Today didn't go how I expected, but at the end of the day I'm still chasing my dream."

Another hopeful, receiver Jordan Leslie, signed an UDFA contract with the Minnesota Vikings, according to his agent, Evan Brennan.

"I am proud to say I am a Viking. No one is as motivated as I am to be successful, and I will make the Vikings proud they signed me," Leslie wrote.

Another of Brennan's clients, offensive lineman De'Ondre Wesley, signed an UDFA deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

BYU tight end Devin Mahina signed a free agent contract with Washington after receiving three offers, according to his agent, Cliff Brady.

Brennan, an attorney and agent who got his undergraduate degree at BYU, said safety Skye PoVey will attend the Green Bay Packers' mini-camp on a tryout basis.

"Getting a shot to prove what I can do in Green Bay. Go Pack Go," PoVey wrote.

Receiver Ross Apo got an invitation to attend the Seattle Seahawks' mini-camp.

Defensive back Robertson Daniel will get an opportunity with the Oakland Raiders.

Running back Paul Lasike will attend the Atlanta Falcons' mini-camp and offensive lineman Solomone Kafu will attend the Arizona Cardinals' mini-camp, Brennan said.

Despite that lengthy list, it was not a good day for BYU's NFL hopefuls after Ziggy Ansah went No. 5 overall in the 2013 draft and Kyle Van Noy went in the second round last year.

BYU has had just 12 players drafted in head coach Bronco Mendenhall's 10-year tenure. The Cougars haven't had an offensive player drafted since tight end Dennis Pitta went to the Baltimore Ravens in 2010.

BYU's other Pro Day participants were safety Craig Bills, safety Harvey Jackson, deep snapper Kevin O'Mary, punter Scott Arellano, offensive lineman Edward Fusi and defensive lineman Marques Johnson.
