This week's Utah Crowd-Funding Project is a band making music in a hurry.

The Pelicants is a five-member Salt Lake City jazz fusion/progressive rock instrumental band — made up of drummer Kona Ossana, saxophonist Charlie Vandel, trumpeter Parker Andrezzi, bassist Will Guss and guitarist Ryan Collenburg. They've been performing together for five years, since middle school, and want to record an album before they head off to college.

(For a taste of their music, check out the band's SoundCloud page.)

The band is seeking $3,000 via Kickstarter to pay for studio time, mixing by a professional sound engineer, plus album art and promotion. So far the campaign has raised $60 in pledges, with a deadline of June 6.

Benefits for backers range from a downloadable song (for $5) to an executive-producer credit, memorabilia and two bonus songs (for $750).

If you have a crowd-funding project you'd like mentioned on The Cricket blog, email it to: spmeans@sltrib.com. Be sure to put "crowd funding" in the subject line.
