Police are reminding motorists to be more aware of the increase in motorcycle traffic that has come with warm, spring weather after a rider was killed by an SUV in Ogden.

Ogden police Lt. Tim Scott said that 27-year-old Joshua Johnson, of Layton, was southbound on Harrison Boulevard about 7:30 p.m. Monday when a northbound Jeep Grand Cherokee turned west onto 42nd Street and into the path of the victim's motorcycle.

Johnson was not wearing a helmet. He was dead at the scene.

The 48-year-old woman driving the Jeep was uninjured.

No citations were immediately issued, but the investigation was ongoing.

"With the change in weather, motorcycles are on the roads in increasing numbers. Drivers need to be aware of them, especially in cases like this one, where making a turn [into oncoming traffic lanes]," Scott said Tuesday.
