Directions • From the trailhead, walk toward the northern trail — but hang an immediate right at the large wooden sign for the trail that slopes east up the mountainside. You will quickly cross paths with wide, sandy Firebreak Road, but ignore it and keep heading up the mountain.

Despite its name, this trail is more of a climb up the face of a mountain. You will spend most of the hike following switchbacks up the east face, with little shade. If you are looking for a workout, this is the hike for you.

Sweeping views of southern Davis County, including the marshes of the Great Salt Lake, are always at your back. Though the steep climb might require frequent stops, you will have a great view to take in with each one.

After 1.7 miles, you will cross a ridgeline and see a rock formation that looks like a dog's face in profile. Keep going straight for about a third of a mile and you'll find a meadow dotted with yellow flowers, as well as a gorgeous view of a forested canyon.
