A 19-year-old Minnesota woman remained in critical condition Monday, the day after she tumbled 35-50 feet while rock climbing in northern Utah's Waterfall Canyon.

Sophie Hillmeyer, of Duluth, Minn., fell about noon Sunday when a rock came loose under her foot. She landed on her side, suffering head, arm and hip injuries, according Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Brandon Toll.

It took search and rescue crews about 90 minutes to reach her, pack her out and put her aboard a medical helicopter. She was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden in critical condition. Toll said her condition reportedly remained unchanged Monday, following surgery.

Hillmeyer was visiting Utah as part of an AmeriCorps volunteer service trip. On Sunday, a day off, she had joined friends to take the 2-mike hike up the popular, 200-foot waterfall. She and a friend apparently decided to leave the trail to climb rocks next to the waterfall itself when she fell.
