A St. George man was hospitalized in serious condition Thursday after his car careened into the side of a mobile home.

St. George police said the 30-year-old driver crashed into the residence at 1450 N. Dixie Downs Road about 7:40 a.m. Firefighters extricated him from the wreckage and he was rushed to Dixie Regional Medical Center.

No one was inside the home at the time of the crash, and no other injuries were reported.

Police said it appeared the vehicle was eastbound on 1425 North, then blew a stop sign as it crossed over Dixie Downs Road, jumped the curb and struck the mobile home. The car broke through the metal sheeting of the home, reportedly knocking it two feet off its foundation.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation, with police hoping to learn more once the driver is well enough to be questioned.
