The medical examiner has been unable to determine how Kayelyn Louder died.

After she was missing for several months, the Murray woman's body was found in the Jordan River last December by a city crew inspecting drainage pipes near 3300 S. 1200 West. But an autopsy could not determine how Louder died, "due to exposure to the water," Louder's family announced Thursday.

"We knew this was a possibility but are saddened not to have more information or closure," her family said in a statement, adding that a toxicology report showed nothing fatal or illegal in her system.

Louder, 30, left her condo barefoot Sept. 27, 2014, and walked into a rainstorm, leaving behind her beloved dog, her phone, her keys and car.

Earlier that day and the night before, Louder had placed curious 911 calls, first reporting a fight at a wedding and then reporting an intruder was in her apartment. Police said they found no evidence of either.

Before she disappeared, Louder was seen on surveillance video at her apartment talking agitatedly, apparently to herself, investigators have said.

However, police said, Louder had no known history of mental illness.

"We know there is more to the story," her family said Thursday. "Her family deserves answers and she deserves justice."

Her family knows "this was not an accident," and will continue investigating her death "to seek truth and justice for sweet Kayelyn."

Murray police have not closed Louder's case, said spokesman Kenny Bass.
