This week's Utah Crowd-Funding Project comes without accompaniment.

Infrared is a student-run a capella group at the University of Utah — 10 singers, six guys and four gals, performing self-arranged covers of current and classic pop tunes. (You can get a taste of the group's sound in the YouTube video above.)

The group is working toward creating its first studio album — which, of course, takes money for studio rentals, hiring a recording crew, and so on.

Infrared is mounting a crowd-funding campaign, seeking to raise $10,000 via Kickstarter.

So far, the group has raised $35 in pledges. The deadline is April 25.

Benefits for backers range from getting your name in the credits of Infrared's next video (for $10) to a private concert and credit on the back of the album (for $5,000).

If you have a crowd-funding project you'd like mentioned on The Cricket blog, email it to: spmeans@sltrib.com. Be sure to put "crowd funding" in the subject line.
