A South Jordan man injured in a head-on crash with a suspected drunk driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 215 has died from his injuries.

Michael "Mikey" McMillian, 27, was injured late Wednesday and taken to Intermountain Health Center, where he died Friday.

The other driver, 22-year-old Chanel S. Nielsen of Sandy, died at the scene. She was spotted by Utah Highway Patrol troopers as she entered oncoming traffic on I-15 from 5300 South — driving her Mazda hatchback southbound in the northbound lanes.

Despite efforts by troopers to get her attention, Nielsen continued driving and switched onto I-215, going eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic, the UHP says. She then collided with McMillian's westbound Subaru station wagon near 1700 East.

Several other vehicles were involved in chain-reaction collisions in the moments after the initial crash, but no further injuries were reported.
