A southwestern Utah blaze jumped from a garage to three adjacent homes in Washington County before firefighters from several agencies extinguished the flames.

Hurricane police Sgt. Brandon Buell said the fire was reported about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday at 467 N. 230 West. Crews from neighboring Washington City and Hildale joined the Hurricane Valley Fire District in battling the blaze.

The garage and nearby house were total losses, but crews were able to limit residential fire damage to the two other neighboring homes primarily to exterior walls. Damages were estimated at $210,000.

Occupants of all three homes were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

The specific cause of the fire remained under investigation, but a homeowner reportedly was working in the garage shortly before the flames erupted.

In all, 30 firefighters responded to the scene, Buell said.

The fire occurred in the vicinity of Hurricane Middle School, but classes were not affected. Some school buses and parents arriving the pick up students were briefly detoured around the fire scene.
