The Utah High School Activities Association's Board of Trustees will be hearing petitions appealing realignment from East, Highland, Roy and Ogden Thursday when it meets at 9 a.m. at the UHSAA's Midvale office at 199 E. 7200 South.

The board completed its realignment for the 2015-17 school years at its December meeting but some schools are appealing their placement.

Roy, which has been playing in 4A, was moved up to 5A. The Royals want to remain as a 4A school. Ogden, which has been struggling to be competitive in football, is seeking to play that sport in 3AA instead of 4A. And East and Highland did not like being placed in a northern region, which will require trips to Box Elder County. They want to either be placed in an all-Salt Lake County league or, in football, have East play in the Salt Lake County league in 2015 and Highland play in that league in 2016.

The Board of Trustees are expected to set a timetable for the next realignment, which will be held for the 2017-2019 school years. They will hear a report on ejections as well as review new member applications from six high schools.
