Five times, police say, Dallas Choate led them on high-speed chases and eluded capture. On Friday, though, the 19-year-old awoke in a Salt Lake County jail cell.

West Valley City police finally put an end to the teen's alleged crime spree about noon on Wednesday, when he was spotted and arrested at a Target store, 2800 S. 5600 West.

Choate, his picture plastered on news sites and television broadcasts, had been sought by police in neighboring Salt Lake City in connection with a series of shoplifting, theft and fleeing incidents over the space of a week.

Following his arrest, he was booked on a spate of felony and misdemeanor counts. Charges ranged from first-degree felony aggravated robbery, second-degree aggravated assault, robbery, theft and possession of a stolen vehicle and third-degree counts of fleeing police, aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance, to shoplifting, joyriding and drug paraphernalia possession misdemeanors.

Choate remained behind bars on Friday and his bail was set at nearly $187,300.

Police said he had been driving a black 2008 BMW 328i convertible with Utah license plate D514MD that was reported stolen on December 14.

The latest chase had been on Tuesday. Fleeing a Costco clerk who suspected him of shoplifting, Choate allegedly struck an Adult Probation and Parole Officer who was running toward him after seeing the earlier foot pursuit. The officer had minor injuries.
