Brandon Bowen has decided to end his recruitment process. And the 6-foot-7, 315-pound Corner Canyon offensive lineman — a former University of Utah commit — will be playing for a familiar face. On Sunday night, the senior Charger announced on his Twitter account that he'd committed to Ohio State University and former Utah coach Urban Meyer.

Bowen, ranked as three- and four-star recruit from various recruiting sites, took his official visit to Columbus on Nov. 1 and saw the No. 7 Buckeyes roll Illinois 55-14. He later decommitted from Utah on Nov. 11 and re-opened his recruitment.

At this point in time I have decided to decommit from the University of Utah. I still have the utmost respect for the program and university

He originally verbally committed to the Utes on Sept. 20 and told the Tribune he liked what he'd seen from first-year offensive coordinator Dave Christensen. Former Ute tight end John Madsen, who played under Meyer during his years at Utah, worked extensively with Bowen to reshape his body and gain strength.

"The kid's worked his butt off for five, six months now," Madsen told the Tribune on Sept. 20. "Branden's a really, really determined and hungry kid. It took a while for him to get his first offer, so he wasn't one of those kids that's seen offers from tons of different schools from the time he was a sophomore, like Jackson Barton did. I think that's going to work to Branden's advantage. He plays with a chip on his shoulder."

Bowen anchored the offensive line for a 12-1 Charger team that won Region 7 before eventually being ousted by Roy 39-0 in the Class 4A semifinals. Corner Canyon rushed 3,077 yards in 2014 according to MaxPreps.com and averaged 279 rushing yards per game.

The new Buckeye spoke to Ohio State news site www.elevenwarriors.com Sunday night and explained his decision.

"The coaches at Ohio State are great," Bowen told Eleven Warriors. "The players on the team are just great people. The tradition there is unbelievable and from what I have seen, they have the best fans in the nation. Really, everything at Ohio State is what sold me on Ohio State. I have nothing but respect for Utah's program, but it's a night and day difference between the two places. The players at Ohio State are closer, the coaches' resumes are all impressive and it's a program that's on the verge of competing for multiple national championships. There's a tradition at The Ohio State University that is unlike any other. On top of all that, it's a great academic school that will provide me with a meaningful degree."
