"Constantine" (Friday, 9 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5) is the third new series based on a comic book to debut this fall. And, while it's not bad, it's not as good as either "The Flash" or "Gotham."

Matt Ryan stars as John Constantine — a demon hunter with a (predictably) dark past.

The comic books are dark and fun because Constantine is a smart-aleck. The show's premiere tries hard to mimic that without much success. It's not that "Constantine" is terrible; it is just sort of … meh.
