One suspect is in custody and another remained at large Friday after allegedly brandishing a handgun during a fight at the Road Home Shelter in downtown Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake police Detective Dennis McGowan said officers were called to the shelter, at 210 S. Rio Grande St., about 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

As police arrived, two suspects drove off, only to collide with another vehicle at 1700 S. 700 East. The men fled on foot; no injuries were reported.

Police dogs from SLCPD and Unified Police found one of the suspects — a 31-year-old man — and took him into custody without further incident. He remained in the Salt Lake County jail Friday on suspicion of second-degree felony theft of a firearm and third-degree counts of possession of a weapon by a restricted person and failure to stop at the command of a police officer.

McGowan said a description of the still at-large suspect was still being developed Friday.
