The Utah Department of Health reported administering nearly 19,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine over the last day— the highest daily number of shots being injected since immunizations started in the state last month.
The welcome record came Saturday with 242,784 people in the state now having received the first dose and 57,732 getting both.
The state has previously crossed 16,000 doses administered in a single day. But this is the first time it’s gone above 18,000.
The day brought other good trends, too. Overall hospitalizations were down, as were the number of patients in intensive care units. There was only a modest increase in new cases of the virus, while the seven-day average also decreased.
Vaccinations reported in past day/total vaccinations • 18,719 / 300,516.
Cases reported in past day • 1,468.
Deaths reported in past day • 8.
There were five deaths in Salt Lake County. They were a man and woman, both age 45 to 64; a woman 65-84; and a man and woman, both over age 85.
Additionally, there was one death each in Cache County — a man 65-84; Davis County — a man 65-84; and Weber County — a woman 85-plus.
Hospitalizations reported in past day • 430. That’s down 16 from Friday. Of those currently hospitalized, 139 are in intensive care units — nine fewer than on Friday.
Tests reported in past day • 8,768.
Percentage of positive tests • 16.74%. This is slightly lower than the seven-day average of 18%.
Totals to date • 345,430 cases; 1,663 deaths; 13,427 hospitalizations; 2,018,175 tests.
