Provo • Utah Valley University is adding seven new gender-neutral bathrooms.

The Provo Daily Herald reports that the institution is re-labeling single-stall restrooms in seven buildings to be unisex.

Frank Young, UVU's associate vice president of facilities planning, says the decision was made several years ago and the signs are already made and waiting to be installed.

The changes will bring the university's total number of gender-neutral bathrooms to 24.

LGBT Student Services program manager Karen Deysher says the bathrooms will be safe for transgender students and also convenient for others, like parents with young children and people helping someone with disabilities.
